ADJUSTING PARKING BRAKE Note: The parking brake system, which is completely independent of the service brakes, is subjected to only limited wear since the parking brake is not applied in normal driving situations. Consequently the friction torque drops, e.g. because of brake drum corrosion or dirty liners. The force required for operation will increase proportionally. Adjusting will be necessary, if the operating travel of the parking brake lever is greater than 10 teeth.
Basic Adjustment: Loosen parking brake cables on the parkting brake lever completely.
Unscrew and remove one wheel bolt on each rear wheel. Position each tapped bore approx. 30° in front of the perpendicular at the top. Installation: Tightening torque - see Gr. 36. 36 10 000
Turn adjusting nut (1) upwards with a screwdriver until it is no longer possible to turn the wheel or brake disc. Loosen the adjusting nut 10 catches afterwards.
Adjusting Parking Brake Cables on Dynamometer Test Stand: 0 tooth: (released position) wheel circumferential force at idle speed for cars a) without limited slip differential = < 150N b) with limited slip differential = < 200 N 1st tooth: no brake torque increase in reference to 0 tooth Control lamp could be on! 2nd tooth: Control lamp must be on! 5th tooth: Brake force display left/right must be 600 + 50 N, make adjustment if necessary.
Breaking In Program for Parking Brake: For application after replacing pads or brake discs and reduced braking effect. Pull up parking brake lever lightly until resistance is noticed at road speed of about 40 km/h. Then pull further to the next catch and drive car about 400 meters in this position. Uniform adjustment of the parking brake is a basic condition. |
