REMOVING AND INSTALLING
LOCK SHAFT

Remove door complete with baseplate
- see 51 33.
Remove bottom trim panel - see 51 43.
Remove lock - see 51 21.

Mark location of lock shaft holders
(with a scrible) when reusing the same
parts.

Installation:
Check whether lock shaft moves easily.
The lock shaft must turn back to the
middle position on its own.

Remove the unlocking mechanism for
the convertible top lid.
Unscrew lock shaft holder screws on
the A-pillar.

Push back lock shaft and swing the
front holder past the door guide rail.
Take off lock shaft.

Installation:
Place lock shaft on a level surface and
check whether catch bolts are aligned
uniformly.
Reassemble the lock shaft when
necessary.

 
Check the installed direction of the
lock shaft holder on the B-pillar.

Adjusting Lock Shaft When Using New
Parts:
Install lock shaft and lock.
Use spacers on the staybolts of the
B-pillar between the body and lock.
The thickness of required spacers is
given at the place of installation.

Press lock (1) into middle position
against the body and tighten screws
(2) of the lock shaft holder.
