REMOVING AND INSTALLING
FRONT DISC BRAKES

Remove front wheels - see Gr. 36.
Unscrew fist caliper mounting bolts (1).

Installation:
Tightening torque = 110 to 123 Nm
(80 to 88 ft. lbs.).

Unplug pad wear indicator on left side.
Pull off fist caliper toward rear and
suspend from car on a piece of wire.

Unscrew bolt (2).
Take off brake disc.
Special Tool: 34 1 020 or 34 4 000.

CHECKING FRONT BRAKE DISCS FOR
RUNOUT AND THICKNESS DEVIATION
- Front Wheel Removed -

Requirement: wheel bearings okay.
Mount dial gage holder and check
lateral runout = max. 0.2 mm (0.008") of
brake disc with a dial gage.

Note:
Mount brake disc with two M 12 x 1.5
bolts.

Measure the thickness deviation at
about 8 points within the braking
surface with a micrometer or special
sliding calipers (Special Tool 34 1 280).

Permissible machining of each braking
surface = 0.8 mm (0.031").
Brake disc thickness at least 20.4 mm
(0.803").
