REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT DISC BRAKES Remove front wheels - see Gr. 36. Unscrew fist caliper mounting bolts (1). Installation: Tightening torque = 110 to 123 Nm (80 to 88 ft. lbs.). 36 10 000
Unplug pad wear indicator on left side. Pull off fist caliper toward rear and suspend from car on a piece of wire.
Unscrew bolt (2). Take off brake disc. Special Tool: 34 1 020 or 34 4 000.
CHECKING FRONT BRAKE DISCS FOR RUNOUT AND THICKNESS DEVIATION - Front Wheel Removed - Requirement: wheel bearings okay. Mount dial gage holder and check lateral runout = max. 0.2 mm (0.008") of brake disc with a dial gage. Note: Mount brake disc with two M 12 x 1.5 bolts.
Measure the thickness deviation at about 8 points within the braking surface with a micrometer or special sliding calipers (Special Tool 34 1 280). Permissible machining of each braking surface = 0.8 mm (0.031"). Brake disc thickness at least 20.4 mm (0.803"). |
