CHECKING FUNCTION OF POWER STEERING PUMP - Engine at Operating Temperature - 1. Checking Power Pump: Unscrew pressure hose (2) on steering gear and connect on Special Tool 32 4 000. Connect pressure hose (1) of Special Tool 32 4 000 on steering gear. Installation: Tightening torque = 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Bleed power steering - see 32 13. 32 13 000
Testing: Shutoff valve (A) must always be closed for hight pressure tests (to avoid damaging the pressure tester). Open shutoff valve (B) and bleed power steering - see 32 13. Close shutoff valve (B) with engine running - max. 10 seconds - and read pressure. The rated pump pressure of 110 bar (1564 psi) ± 10 % must be reached. Check/tighten the drive belt if this pressure is not reached. Perform test again. Replace power pump if pressure is still not reached. 32 13 000
Checking Power Steering: Run engine. Pull steering wheel against the left final stop with 100 N (22 lbs.) (use a force meter) about 5 seconds. Read pressure on pressure tester. Repeat same test on the right lock. Replace the steering gear if the pressure values are lower than the previously determined pump pressure. |
