REMOVING AND INSTALLING AND CHECKING COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR The temperature sensor measures the engine temperature and sends this information in the form of a resistance value to the control unit. The resistance value drops with rising temperature (NTC). 1 = Plug connection 2 = Housing 3 = NTC resistor
Removing and Installing: Pull off plugs (1 and 2). Lift fuel injector plug plate slightly.
Unscrew temperature gage (2). Unscrew temperature sensor (1).
Installation: Check code number (1). Replace seal (2). FD = Manufacturing date Fill and bleed cooling system - see Group 17. 17 00 000
Checking: Connect Jetronic test lead 61 1 440. Check nominal value with an ohmmeter. To check the entire temperature range, remove and place the temperature sensor in a water bath heated to the testing temperature and measure the resistance with an ohmmeter. Specifications: - 10 ± 1° C (+ 14 ± 2° F) = 8.2 ... 10.5 k-ohms / + 20 ± 1° C (+ 68 ± 2° F) = 2.2 ... 2.7 k-ohms / + 80 ± 1° C (+ 176 ± 2° F) = 0.3 ... 0.36 k-ohm |
